Do You feel stuck?

1% Progress, is to remind you that, your progress may be bigger than you think. Learn to notice the little wins, stop comparing your journey, and keep moving forward.

Progress can be difficult to see when you are standing in the middle of your own struggle.

My little experience

I remember standing around the University of Buea Junction one day with tears in my eyes. I felt like everything was falling apart. I had looked at my problems for so long that they had become bigger than every achievement I had ever made.

For a moment, I genuinely felt like I was doing nothing with my life.

I forgot that I had survived difficult seasons before. I forgot the things I had accomplished. I forgot the small doors that had opened for me. I forgot how many times I had started again.

All I could see was what was not working.

And that was dangerous.

When Progress Feels Invisible

Sometimes, you can be making progress and still feel like a failure.

You submit another application and receive no response. Someone you know gets the opportunity you have been praying for. A friend graduates before you. Someone gets married, starts a business, buys a car, travels, or announces another achievement online.

Meanwhile, you are still trying to figure things out.

Suddenly, your life begins to look small in your own eyes.

That was almost where I found myself.

Instead of asking, “How far have I come?” I kept asking, “Why am I not there yet?”

The second question made me miserable.

The first one reminded me that I had actually made progress.

Research has found a significant relationship between social comparison and depression and anxiety, particularly when people evaluate themselves negatively against others.

That does not mean comparison automatically causes depression. Depression is much more complicated than that. But constantly measuring your life against someone else’s highlight reel can make your own journey feel painfully inadequate.

Your Progress Still Counts

Perhaps you woke up today and made your bed.

Maybe you finally answered that email you had been avoiding.

Or you studied for thirty minutes when you previously could not concentrate.

Possibly you sent out another application.

There is a chance you wrote one page.

Maybe you went outside.

Or you smiled after spending days feeling like crying.

Please don’t dismiss these things.

Progress does not always arrive wearing a graduation gown.

Sometimes progress looks like getting out of bed.

Sometimes it looks like trying again after rejection.

Other times, it is choosing not to give up when your plans have collapsed.

At times progress is simply saying, “I don’t have everything figured out, but I will take one more step.”

And that step matters.

Stop Borrowing Timelines

One of the cruelest things we can do to ourselves is to believe that life has one universal timetable.

Who told you that you must have everything figured out by a certain age?

Who decided that your friend’s achievement should become evidence that you are behind?

Why should another person’s chapter 20 make you ashamed of your chapter 10?

Your journey has its own circumstances, lessons, delays, opportunities and battles.

Therefore, your progress cannot always look like somebody else’s.

You may be walking slowly because you are carrying something they are not carrying.

You may have taken a different route because your destination requires something different from you.

So, look back.

Not to live in the past, but to remember yourself.

Think about the person you were two years ago. Think about what used to frighten you. Think about what you once prayed for that has now become normal in your life.

There is progress there.

You just stopped noticing it.

Measure Progress Differently

Instead of asking, “Am I ahead of everybody?” ask, “Am I becoming better than who I used to be?”

That question changes everything.

Keep a small record of your wins. Write down the applications you submitted, books you completed, skills you learned, people you helped, difficult moments you survived and goals you moved closer to.

On difficult days, read the list.

You might discover that your progress was never absent.

You were simply too busy looking at somebody else’s road to notice your own.

Harvard Health has also highlighted the importance of varied social connections for well-being, reminding us that meaningful interaction with different people can contribute positively to how we feel.

So talk to someone. Share your burden. Don’t isolate yourself because you think everyone else is doing better.

And if sadness, hopelessness, loss of motivation or other symptoms persist and begin interfering with your daily life, don’t simply label yourself lazy or unsuccessful. The American Psychological Association notes that persistent symptoms affecting daily functioning can indicate something more serious than ordinary sadness.

Seeking professional support is not weakness.

It is wisdom.

Your 1% Is Enough for Today

That day around the University of Buea Junction, I thought I was looking at the end of my story.

I wasn’t.

I was looking at one difficult page.

And perhaps that is what you need to remember today.

Your current situation is a page, not the entire book.

You may not have the job yet.

You may not have finished school yet.

It is possibly you may not have built the business yet.

Or  reached the destination you imagined.

But if you are still learning, still trying, still healing, still creating, still praying, still applying, still waking up and taking another step—you are not doing nothing.

You are making progress.

Even if it is only 1%.

And sometimes, 1% progress is enough to keep you moving until you can finally look back and realize:

“I was not stuck. I was growing.”

So today, don’t measure your life against someone else’s timeline.

Look at your own road.

Celebrate the little things.

Give yourself permission to grow slowly.

And above all, remember that progress is still progress, even when nobody applauds it.
