MATTER AND ITS ENVIRONMENT
These notes are designed for Ordinary Level (O/L) students, with simple explanations, everyday examples, worked examples, practical activities, and examination exercises. They are adapted to the general secondary-school chemistry curriculum, including the Cameroon context. The Cameroon national chemistry scheme places strong emphasis on matter, its properties and transformations, air, water and solutions, atoms, elements, compounds, mixtures and separation techniques.

ENERGETICS
Energetics is the study of energy changes that take place during chemical reactions. When a chemical reaction occurs, energy may be released or absorbed in the form of heat. Reactions that release heat are called exothermic reactions, while those that absorb heat are called endothermic reactions. In this chapter, we will learn how to identify these reactions, represent their energy changes, and calculate the amount of heat involved in chemical reactions.
